Tia Curtis is an internationally acclaimed quilter, teacher, and pattern designer. She has won multiple awards for her quilting and her quilt work and patterns have been featured in many publications. Tia began her first sewing business “Camp Follower Bags” in 2006. She transformed military uniforms into quilted bags that doubled as functional works of art. Tia made each bag as unique as the lady she was sewing for. Patterns for these bags can be found on the tiacurtisquilts.com patterns page.
With thousands of quilting hours under her belt, Tia transitioned from quilting on her domestic sewing machine to professional long arm quilting with the purchase of her first Gammill Long Arm. In 2012 Tia added a second Gammill with Statler Stitcher to her quilting studio. She has worked as a freelance quilt maker, quilter and pattern designer for fabric manufacturers, fabric designers, books and magazines.
The quilting style Tia Curtis is known for is primarily Modern with a solid foundation in Welsh style and American Traditional. She blends improv piecing with applique and patchwork blocks to create lively and passionate works that are truly one of a kind.
Tia earned her BSN and was a member of the Army Nurse Corps for 11 years. She took time off to stay home with her 3 children and began quilting to fill the hours when her children were asleep and her husband was deployed. What began as a way to keep busy and be productive became a way of life and creative outlet.
